Mona Berry

Mona Berry joined the Office of Field Education as a Field Faculty and LEO Lecturer III in July, 2024. Previously, she served as the School Health/ Social Work Consultant at Wayne Regional Educational Service Agency), providing guidance, professional learning opportunities, training, information and resources to school social workers and educators across Wayne County. With over a decade of experience as a school social worker, Berry mentored colleagues and supervised MSW students, actively contributing to professional development.

Her career spans roles as a field instructor at the U-M, where she instructed master’s level students, and as a family/children’s services worker specializing in child protection services. Berry spent over a decade working directly with K-12 students, particularly those at risk and in need of additional programs and services through Individualized Education Plans. She provided comprehensive school-based mental health services, emphasizing intervention strategies and support systems tailored to meet each student’s needs.

Berry received her bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Windsor, and her master’s degree in social work from Wayne State University, with a concentration in family systems. She is certified as a trainer for QPR, Hope Squad, youth mental health first aid, CSTAG, and MI-BTAM.

As a licensed social worker, Berry focuses on interpersonal practice, advocating for school safety, suicide prevention,and mental health awareness among Muslim communities. She is committed to integrating scholarly research with practical applications in her teaching, emphasizing cultural competence and advocacy within social work education. Berry’s dedication to enhancing mental health resources for underrepresented populations underscores her passion for equity and social justice in the field.
