Dr. Bernardette Pinetta is a UCLA Chancellor's Postdoctoral Research Fellow at UCLA in the Department of Social Welfare. Her research investigates the intersection between ethnic-racial identity (ERI) and sociopolitical development among youth of color. Her work highlights the ways parents, educators, and community members not only cultivate youths’ pride in their racial and cultural background but also foster an awareness of their community’s history of political resistance. Her scholarship illustrates how a critical ethnic-racial identity can be leveraged to provide youth with the tools they need to recognize and dismantle systems that perpetuate and reproduce power differentials.
