Martha N. Gizynski

Martha Gizynski became a lecturer at the school in 1969 while working in the university's Institute of Human Adjustment, and she was appointed as assistant professor of social work in 1974. Her retirement in 1986 as associate professor emerita marked the departure of one of the most accomplished teachers and clinicians on the School of Social Work faculty.

Associate Professor Gizynski was one of the school's outstanding teachers of interpersonal practice and theory during her period of appointment. Her teaching was informed by her research in the areas of family and children's services and ego psychology and by her ongoing commitment to the clinical practice of social work. Her publications reflect the scope of her interests, ranging in subject from adolescents to post-surgery trauma, supervisory relationships, maternal depression, and coping mechanisms of the elderly. She served on numerous doctoral dissertation committees and school committees and was an excellent liaison advisor.

Associate Professor Gizynski held an appointment at the Institute for Human Adjustment, Rackham Graduate School, and at the University's Psychological Clinic.
