Each year there are approximately 18 organizations within the School of Social Work and over 1600 student organizations across campus. Being part of a student organization allows students to enrich their learning, develop leadership skills, connect with other students, and make valuable community contributions
The School of Social Work Student Government is a student organization comprised of elected students whose mission is to support and to encourage coordination and integration of the efforts of students and faculty to achieve greater academic excellence, student success, social justice, and equality. The School of Social Work Student Government serves as the voice of the student body within the School; it also works in partnership with many School of Social Work student organizations.
Additional School of Social Work student organizations include groups focused on identities, such as the Association of Black Social Work Students, Latinx Indigenous Social Work Alliance, and Queer Advocacy Coalition. There are also student organizations focused on furthering work in particular areas of the field, such as the Child Welfare Student Association and Student Association for Psychedelic Studies.
The Office of Student Services and Enrollment Management (OSS) provides support to student organizations o help them become officially registered organizations in the School and with the University's Center for Campus Involvement. Registered student organizations can utilize space in the School of Social Work and apply to OSS for assistance with event planning.
OSS hosts a student organization and information fair each fall so new students can learn more about how to join or start a student organization to enhance their time in the MSW program.
Student organizations can be a very powerful way for students to enhance their experience in the School of Social Work. Through these organizations, you can make lasting community change and meaningful friendships. Please consider joining a student organization in the fall.
