Curriculum Track:20 Month
I was abroad for 4 weeks for my Global Independent Study project. During my project, I was a summer intern at the University of Bradford (UB). I helped the University of Bradford Union of Student with event programing, program evaluation, and cross-cultural training workshops with a goal of comparing international student services models UB and U-M.
What made you interested in Global Independent Study?
I wanted to learn about what International Chinese students experience in another English speaking country. Also, I've never been to Europe, so I wanted to experience their culture. Since I only speak English, I decided to go to the UK.
What advice would you give, based on your own experience, to students considering Global Independent Study?
Go for it! If you have an idea or would like to learn about social work in another cultural setting, don't be afraid to pursue it with the GIS opportunity. At the same time, be prepared that the plan may not happen as planned. Coping with unexpected changes is also a valuable learning from GIS.
