    Lynn Videka and the U-M Women Deans Condemn Comments Made by U-M Regent Ron Weiser

    Dean Lynn Videka was one of the six of U-M’s women deans who wrote a letter protesting the remarks U-M Regent Ron Weiser made on Thursday at the North Oakland Republican Club. The deans called on Weiser to “repair the serious harm” he had caused. “Regent Weiser's name-calling and use of language suggesting violent actions are hostile, threatening and offensive to all women,” said Videka. U-M President Mark Schlissel and Provost Susan Collins also issued statements denouncing Weiser’s comments.

    Preparing for Fall Semester 2020

    Dean Lynn Videka has been named a chair of the U-M Provost’s Fall 2020 Planning Initiative. She is a member of the overall Fall 2020 Coordinating Committee and is chairing the Curricular Support, Extra and Co-curricular Activities, and Engaged Learning Committee.  Videka’s committee is part of a larger, coordinating committee chaired by Interim Provost Susan Collins, which is exploring ways the university can move forward with research, teaching and service during the pandemic.  Videka’s committee will focus on ensuring equitable access to key academic resources and developing guidelines to support and enhance U-M undergraduate and graduate education in fall 2020.

    Lynn Videka Honored with Edith Abbott Award for Lifetime Achievement

    Lynn Videka, Dean and Carol T. Mowbray Collegiate Professor of Social Work, is the recipient of the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration’s Edith Abbott Award for Lifetime Achievement. Videka received her AM in 1976 and her PhD in 1981. The award honors alumni who have made outstanding contributions, which have enhanced the social work profession overall. Her vision at the University of Michigan is one that encompasses robust research, innovative cross-disciplinary collaborations and rigorous engaged education for the next generation of practitioners.

    Dean Lynn Videka Named a Fellow to the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare

    Lynn Videka, University of Michigan School of Social Work’s Dean and Carol T. Mowbray Collegiate Professor of Social Work was named a fellow to the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare. The Academy confers the honor on worthy candidates for their distinguished accomplishments as scholars and practitioners dedicated to achieving excellence in high-impact work that advances social good.

    Dean and Carol T. Mowbray Professor Lynn Videka was cited in The Michigan Daily article, “Academic Innovation Summit discuss MOOCs’ place at the ‘U’.”
