Assistant Professor Shawna Lee was awarded a grant for her project, “Building Community Capacity to Implement Multilevel Parenting Support for Fathers", funded by the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research's Community University Research Partnership Award.
This project will investigate ways to support fathers' engagement with service providers in the Cody Rouge neighborhood of Detroit.
The U-M School of Social Work (SSW) has received a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration to increase the number of MSW behavioral health workers. This project prepares MSW students to work with impoverished racial and ethnic minority children, adolescents, and transitional age youth living with behavioral health conditions. SSW, in collaboration with the Detroit/Wayne County Mental Health Authority, will provide a specialized inter-professional behavioral health education and training program called the Detroit Clinical Scholar Program to 33 MSW students per year (a total of 99 over three years).

PhD student Amanda Tillotson and Professor John Tropman published "Early Responders, Late Responders, and Non-responders: The Principal-Agent Problem in Board Oversight of Nonprofit CEOs" in the current issue of Human Service Organizations Management Leadership and Governance Journal.
Assistant Professor David Cordova’s research, "A Community Engaged Approach to Working toward the Implementation of Mental Health Best Practices in a Primary Care Setting," has been accepted for presentation at the 7th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation.
Assistant Professor Desmond Patton was invited by the University of Chicago Consortium on Chicago School Research for a convening of experts to discuss the practices and strategies that foster the factors critical to young adult success. This convening is a part of a project funded by the Wallace Foundation called “A Framework for Developing Young Adult Success in the 21st Century.” The project examines how noncognitive factors shape college and career success and how these factors are developed in different stages and within various contexts of children's lives.
Lloyd Shelton (MSW ' 15) was featured in The University Record for a talk he gave at the Services for Students with Disabilities 40th Anniversary Event on changing the culture at U-M for students with disabilities.
Professor Mieko Yoshihama was selected for the Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence 2014 Wave of Change Award, which recognizes "efforts to prevent domestic and sexual violence and whose work has contributed significantly to the social change necessary to end violence against women." The Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence is a state coalition of domestic and sexual violence organizations.
Craig Laurie (MSW'13) and a colleague were awarded a $500k federal grant from the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health for their project, "Building a Movement for Michigan Gay-Straight Alliances” (BAMM GSAs). As part of Craig's position with the Michigan Organization on Adolescent Sexual Health, he and his team will work to improve health outcomes for LGBTQ youth in Michigan through increased prevalence and capacity of GSAs throughout the state over the next 3 years.
