Laura Sundstrom, MSW, Evaluation Associate with the Curtis Center Program Evaluation Group, was invited to speak at the Western Michigan Univerity Evaluation Center's Evaluation Cafe speaker series on September 30, 2015 for doctoral students, faculty, and staff.  The Evaluation Center administers the interdisciplinary Ph.D. in evaluation program and provides evaluation, research, and capacity-building services to a University, public, community-based, national, and international organizations to assist them in assessing and improving their programs.

Ms. Sundstrom's presentation, "Using Systems Thinking in Your Evaluations: How Separate Evaluation Projects Can Strengthen Eachother," focused on how to apply systems thinking principles to enhance the relevance and use of findings for evaluation consumers.

Assistant Professor Reuben Miller received a grant from the U-M Center for Public Policy in Diverse Societies to examine how repeated arrest, confinement and reentry shapes the social and family life of inner city black men.

Professor Emerita Edith Lewis’ article, “On Listening as an Integral Element of Praxis in Feminist and Womynist Research” was published in the Journal of Family Theory & Review.

Sarah Hong and Amanda Champagne (CASC students) was featured in The New York Times article, "On the Front Line of Campus Sexual Misconduct".

Matthew Chin successfully defended his dissertation, "Enacting Politics through Art: Encounters between Queer and Trans of Color Organizers and the Canadian State" and obtained his PhD in Social Work and Anthropology. Dr. Chin has accepted a position with Columbia University as an Ethnographic Researcher.

Professor Sandra Danziger interviewed with 89.1 WEMU regarding Michigan’s anti-poverty programs.

Associate Professor Daphne Watkins new book "Mixed Methods Research a Pocket Guide to Social Work Research and Methods" was published by Oxford University Press. Watkins reviews the fundamentals of mixed methods research designs and the general suppositions of mixed methods procedures, look critically at mixed method studies and models that have already been employed in social work, and reflect on the contributions of this work to the field

Associate Professor Luke Shaefer was cited in The Atlantic article, “America’s Poorest Are Getting Virtually No Assistance” and Raw Story’s article, “The number of Americans living on less than $2 a day is skyrocketing”. His book, "2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America" was also reviewed by The New York Times.
