    Luke Shaefer Cited in The Atlantic and Raw Story

    Associate Professor Luke Shaefer was cited in The Atlantic article, “America’s Poorest Are Getting Virtually No Assistance” and Raw Story’s article, “The number of Americans living on less than $2 a day is skyrocketing”. His book, "2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America" was also reviewed by The New York Times.

    Curtis Center supports MiCHWA Common Indicators Project and Evaluation

    Edie KiefferKatherine Mitchell and SSW alum Nicholas Yankey are among the authors of "The Role of Evaluation in Developing and Sustaining Community Health Worker Coalitions - The Example of the Michigan Community Health Worker Alliance", published this month in the Journal of Ambulatory Care Management. The article describes the development, processes and initiatives of the Michigan Community Health Worker Alliance (MiCHWA), through the lens of evaluation, illustrating how CHW coalitions can use participatory evaluation to "develop and reinforce coalition strengths and accomplish mutual goals".

    Reuben Miller Receives Grant from Center for Public Policy in Diverse Societies for "The Detroit Reentry Project"

    Assistant Professor Rueben Miller received a grant from the Center for Public Policy in Diverse SocietiesAward to help fund "the Detroit Re-entry Project," a study that documents the lives of recently released prisoners returning to their home communities in Detroit.

    Athena Kolbe Successfully Defends Dissertation, “Reintegrating members of armed groups into Haitian society: An evaluation of three approaches”

    Athena Kolbe successfully defended her dissertation entitled “Reintegrating members of armed groups into Haitian society: An evaluation of three approaches” and obtained her PhD in Social Work and Political Science. Dr. Kolbe has accepted a tenure track position in the Department of Social Work at SUNY Brockport.

    The School of Social Work offers Masters in Social Work students a variety of field placements (internships) where students put their classroom knowledge into practice, gain hands-on experience in the real world, and see first-hand the impact of social work.

    Sherrie Kossoudji Receives Grant from U-M Third Century Initiative for Project, “Contested Borders and Immigration Enforcement: Policy on the Ground”

    Associate Professor Sherrie Kossoudji received a grant from the U-M Third Century Initiative for her project, “Contested Borders and Immigration Enforcement: Policy on the ground” which will examine the repercussions of U.S. immigration and border enforcement policy.
