    Janelle Goodwill (PhD Student) and Vincent Fusaro (PhD Student) Receive Research Day Doctoral Poster Award

    Vincent Fusaro and Janelle Goodwill received the Doctoral Poster Award at the School of Social Work's annual Research Day. Fusaro was awarded for his poster "Children in Immigrant Families & Economic Hardship", and Goodwill for her poster, "How Do Young Black Men Cope with Life Stressors and Mental Health Challenges?" Fusaro's research looked at immigrant family participation in public programs, while Goodwill studied in-group differences in mental and health coping strategies in young Black men.

    Brad Zebrack Leads Study on Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Survivor Social Functioning

    Professor Brad Zebrack is co-author and lead investigator of a recent multicenter longitudinal study on adolescent and young adult cancer survivors’ social functioning after treatment. The study was also cited in a recent CNN story on a college swimmer cancer patient.

    Andy Grogan-Kaylor Receives Grant for Study on Parental Attitudes toward Spanking

    Associate Professor Andy Grogan-Kaylor received a grant for his project, ''A Randomized Control Trial to Change Parental Attitudes and Behavior Regarding Physical Punishment of Children'' from the University of Michigan - Flint. The purpose of this study is to evaluate a brief psychoeducational parent intervention strategy that aims to shift parental attitudes toward spanking and reduce the use of spanking to discipline children among parents in Genesee County.

    John Mathias Defends Dissertation, "Contentious Ethics: Creativity and Persuasion among Environmental Justice Organizers in South India"

    John Mathias successfully defended his dissertation, "Contentious Ethics: Creativity and Persuasion among Environmental Justice Organizers in South India" and obtained his PhD in Social Work and Anthropology. He has accepted an Assistant Professor of Social Work position with Florida State University.
