    Joe Ryan Receives Award from the Criminal Justice Policy Committee

    Associate Professor Joe Ryan received an award from the Criminal Justice Policy Committee for reviewing the methodology and draft reports studying the fiscal impact of directing minors in Michigan from the adult court and service systems to the family court and juvenile service systems.

    Associate Professor Joe Ryan was a panelist for the Celebrating University of Michigan Faculty Impact, Now and Future program. The panel was moderated by President Mark Schlissel and discussed how faculty leverage their research to inform social change.

    Joe Ryan Featured Panelist at Local Town Hall on Breaking Down School to Prison Pipeline

    Associate Professor Joe Ryan was an expert panelist at a town hall, “How to Create a School to Success Continuum: Dismantling the School to Prison Pipeline”. He was cited in The Michigan Daily.

    Joseph Ryan, Amy Good (MSW'80), Terri Gilbert (MSW'87) Appointed to Michigan Committee on Juvenile Justice

    Governor Rick Snyder announced appointments and reappointments to the Michigan Committee on Juvenile Justice. The committee advises the governor on juvenile justice issues and guides effective implementation of juvenile justice policies and programs. Three of the  committee members are affiliated with the U-M School of Social Work:

    Joseph Ryan (MSW’96) is an associate professor at the U-M SSW and a faculty associate for the Center for Political Studies and the Institute for Social Research.

    Amy Good (MSW’80) is CEO of Alternatives for Girls. She has more than 27 years of experience working with homeless and high-risk girls and young women, primarily in Detroit.

    Terri Gilbert (MSW’87) is executive director of the Oakland County Bar Association. She served as bureau director of child welfare funding and juvenile programs for the State of Michigan’s Department of Human Services.

    Associate Professor Joseph Ryan has just received an award from the State of Illinois Department of Human Services to continue evaluation activities for the State of Illinois's Alcohol and Drug Abuse program.

    Associate Professor Joseph Ryan and Associate Professor Brian Perron received an award from the State of Michigan to study mental health and substance abuse in juvenile justice facilities.
