Under what circumstances do I need to complete an Out-of-Sequence Petition?

The purpose of the Out-of-Sequence Petition is to inform the Office of Field Education of your field plan if you are deviating from the traditional 12-month, 16-month, or 20-month field schedule.

Enrolled MSW students must complete and submit an Out-of-Sequence Petition for the following reasons:

  • You plan to enroll in field education for a term that is not expected based on your current curriculum schedule.
  • You change your curriculum schedule and it creates a change in terms of expected field education enrollment.
  • You are adding field hours as elective credits.
  • You are a part-time MSW student. (Part-time students must submit the petition prior to the term in which they plan to begin field education.)
  • You are a joint MSW/PhD student.
  • You are a dual degree student and you are deviating from the traditional 12-month, 16-month, or 20-month field schedule.
