Dr. Velissaris is the clinical neuropsychologist and an athletic counselor for the University of Michigan athletes serving as one of the first neuropsychologists housed within athletics. Dr. Velissaris also serves as a neuropsychologist, psychologist, and performance coach for non-UM athletes through his private practice, The Focused Elite.
Dr. Velissaris is professionally trained in clinical neuropsychology and holds three advanced degrees in psychology and the behavioral sciences. Dr. V’s training, expertise, personal experience, and unique service model for continuity of care and concierge model of availability have resulted in success for athletes at the college, Olympic, and professional levels.
Dr. Velissaris earned the Charles Matthews Award for outstanding research for his work on cognitive functioning in pediatric epilepsy with comorbid ADHD. His dissertation research focused on the development of an assessment measure focusing on the twice-exceptional (2e) population (exceptionally gifted, while also being exceptional due to a learning disability). Previously, he was a direct service provider for adults with autism and was involved in the concussion testing for the NFL protocol pilot study.
Dr. Velissaris is a University of Michigan alumnus and varsity letterwinner in wrestling.
