  3. Systemic Racism and Mental Health Webinar

    August 6, 2020 - 5:00pm to 6:00pm

    The American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare will offer this free webinar series on Systemic Racism and Mental Health. The presenters -- Sean Joe and David Takeuchi -- are significant experts in this field. 

    The U.S. Surgeon General’s Report on mental health problems among underrepresented minorities, published in 2002, suggested a significant contribution from systemic racism. Since that time, scholars have uncovered links between the two phenomena. This webinar uses an interview format to explore recent evidence of the link between systemic racism and mental health.

  4. The Nuts and Bolts of Evaluation for Community Organizations | Developing an Evaluation Plan

    This course is the second session in a new webinar series - The Nuts and Bolts of Evaluation for Community Organizations. Each session will focus on a practical aspect of conducting evaluation in community-based organizations. This second session will focus on developing an evaluation plan. This session will offer tips and strategies for deciding what to focus on when you want to evaluate your program as well as provide a case study of developing a plan with Algeria Wilson of NASW.

    This beginner-level webinar is approved to offer 1 synchronous interactive CE contact hour.

    The University of Michigan School of Social Work, provider #1212, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. The University of Michigan School of Social Work maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 5/15/2020-5/15/2023. Social workers participating in this course will receive one synchronous online continuing education contact hour.

    Then, on August 14 from 3-5 pm return for a facilitated discourse in small groups based on Brene Brown's research on shame and guilt.
