  1. The Journey to Becoming a Supportive Adult for Students Who Have Experienced Foster Care and Homelessness

    November 1, 2024 - 9:00 AM to 12:15 PM ET

    Nationally, 2% of youth who have experienced foster care graduate with a bachelor’s degree despite 80% reporting they have aspirations to attend college. Further, over 60,000 people identify as homeless on the FAFSA each year but are also underrepresented at graduation. Facilitators will share the unique needs of this student population and how family privilege impacts success in college. Participants will learn strategies for being a supportive adult and how to positively impact the campus culture for students from foster care or homelessness.

  4. NIH Review Criteria

    November 1, 2024 - 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM ET

    The NIH has implemented a new framework for R-Level applications beginning with submissions for due dates on or after January 25, 2025. The simplified review framework is expected to better focus peer reviewers on the key questions needed to assess the scientific and technical merit of proposed research projects: "Should the proposed research project be conducted?" "Can the proposed research project be conducted?"

  5. Half-Baked Research (wholly baked pizza)

    The Associate Dean of Research is hosting a Half-Baked Brown Bag for Faculty and Doctoral Students to share their early-stage ideas with peers for feedback. Please join Todd Herrenkohl & Patrick Meehan will give 15-minute presentations, followed by 30-minute discussions. Pizza and drinks provided. Space for up to 20 attendees!

  7. CASC Board Blankets of Hope Community Event

    November 4, 2024 - 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM ET

    Please join the CASC Board in crafting tie-blankets for different Washtenaw County organizations! The CASC Board works hard each semester to build community engagement, community support, and be agents of change within each community they are involved in. We would love to have MSW and Undergraduate students collaborate to create blankets, notes, and spend time in community. Snacks, drinks, and all materials will be provided. We hope to see you there!

  10. Global Lens Photo Exhibition

    November 5, 2024 to November 27, 2024

    The Office of Global Activities is thrilled to announce that we are hosting a 2024 Global Lens Reflective Photo Exhibition and submissions are now open! The OGA is looking for photographs that are high quality, follow ethical practices, and tell a story about an international experience. This is an event that will ignite your imagination and leave you inspired!

    Members of the SSW community are invited to submit a photo that captures an experience that took place in a different country between September 2023 - October 2024. Participants are also welcome to submit a photo of an experience in the U.S. as your international experience if you call a different country home (i.e. international students, visiting scholars, etc.). This opportunity is open to all SSW students, staff, and faculty.

    Photos that meet the exhibition guidelines will be printed and displayed in the School of Social Work on the first floor windows (across from the Office of Student Services) from November 18-27, as a part of International Education Week.

    All entries for the SSW Global Lens Exhibition must be submitted no later than Sunday, November 10 at 11:59 PM EST.
