    Understanding and supporting athletes and their overall health and welfare has been a prominent specialty service area that social workers have formally and informally navigated for decades. And today, the need for sports social workers with advanced training has never been more requested across sport settings (youth, collegiate, professional, and geriatric). Research currently suggests that: (1) athletes engage in sport across the lifespan to foster a greater sense of belonging and social connection; (2) athlete mental health needs are increasing and licensed, mental health providers are needed to meet this growing demand; and (3) athletes are using their platform to address social injustices and bring awareness to longstanding disparities across our country. As established agents of change, social workers uphold the profession's mission and core values, while having an expansive scope of practice to improve outcomes for individuals, communities, and the larger society...

  6. Gaza Movie Screening & Processing Space

    June 27, 2024 - 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM ET

    Join us for a screening of Gaza, the 2019 documentary by Garry Keene and Andrew McConnell. The purpose of the event is to build community and bond while also exploring the beautiful culture of the Middle East. The documentary highlights real individuals living in the Middle East and takes a "day in the life" approach. The goal is to bond with community while also spreading cultural awareness and education. Following the movie, we will host a processing space to discuss further. Food will be served.

    This event is being held in collaboration with the SSW DEI Office, MI Social Workers for Palestine, Black Radical Healing Pathways, Southwest Asia and North Africa Social Work Association (SWANA), and the School of Information DEI Office. 

  7. Online Educational Agreement Due for August 2024 Graduates & Students with a School Based Placement (20-Month, first term)

    June 30, 2024 - 5:00 PM ET

    If you are an August graduate, your final field evaluation is due June 30th. You have registered for six credits of field in the Fall and six credits of field in the Winter.  You do not register for field in Spring/Summer term.

    If you are a 20-month student, your evaluation is due June 30th.  You will return to the same field site in the Fall. 

    If you are a 20-month student, you need to complete 912 hours of fieldwork.  If you are an advanced standing student, your number of fieldwork hours is 684.  Once you complete your required number of hours, you may register for up to six credits of elective field.  Many students placed in schools earn extra hours due to the extended year.  Each additional 57 hours in the field is equal to 1 credit of 691
