    June 12, 2023 - 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET

    This webinar is designed for Fall 2023 incoming On-Campus MSW students and will provide information on how to successfully register for their first term of classes. Staff from the Office of Student Services and Enrollment Management (OSS) will be available to answer questions during the session. Registration for new students will take place in July via Wolverine Access.

    Students will have the opportunity to contact OSS to schedule an individual course planning appointment with a staff member, if needed, after attending this webinar or viewing a recording of the webinar.

    Short presentations will leave plenty of time for your questions.

  4. Trauma-informed practices: We're all in this together

    June 15, 2023 - 9:00 AM to 12:15 PM ET

    Social work professionals can play a critical role in promoting healing and resilience among children who have experienced trauma, but to do so, they must be trauma-informed. This course will provide an introduction to a collaborative multi-stakeholder, trauma-informed approach based in theory and concepts of system change. Participants will be encouraged to consider their role within a larger system of creating safe and healthy communities that resist retraumatization.

  5. DEI Juneteenth Workshop DEI Juneteenth Workshop

    June 19, 2023 - 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM ET

    Join us for our Juneteenth event!

    This June 19, 2023, the School of Social Work Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is partnering up with the Association of Black Social Work Students as well as Black Radical Healing Pathways to host our annual Juneteenth celebration. 

    Everyone is invited to connect, break bread together, and learn with each other. Lawrielle West, MSW ’18, founder and lead creative of KwanzaaMe, will also host a workshop in celebration of Juneteenth.

    The DEI Office will be presenting on the importance and significance of Juneteenth as a celebratory holiday, as well as the magnitude of the 7 Principles of Kwanzaa and the meaning that they hold.

    Lawrielle West will be hosting her workshop, “The Delicious History of Soul Food,” which guides participants through exploring the history of African American cuisine, soul food and its global impact. We’ll explore the importance of community, and its relationship to fellowship and food as we make commitments to build new communal traditions of our own.

    This event will take place in-person, but please refer to the RSVP link below this description if you would like information on how to attend via Zoom. The Zoom portion will begin at 11:55 AM.

    We hope to see you there – food will be served at 11:30!

  9. Certificate in Sport Social Work

    June 27, 2023 - 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM ET

    Understanding and supporting athletes and their overall health and welfare has been a prominent specialty service area that social workers have formally and informally navigated for decades. And today, the need for sports social workers with advanced training has never been more requested across sport settings (youth, collegiate, professional, and geriatric). Research currently suggests that: (1) athletes engage in sport across the lifespan to foster a greater sense of belonging and social connection; (2) athlete mental health needs are increasing and licensed, mental health providers are needed to meet this growing demand; and (3) athletes are using their platform to address social injustices and bring awareness to longstanding disparities across our country. As established agents of change, social workers uphold the profession's mission and core values, while having an expansive scope of practice to improve outcomes for individuals, communities, and the larger society...
