What Does Economic Security Look Like and How to Get There
May 18, 2022 - 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM ET
U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) will join the University of Michigan’s William Elliott III and Trina Shanks, Michael Sherraden of Washington University, Thomas Shapiro of Brandeis University and other experts for an online discussion on the combination of income- and asset-based policies that can broaden economic security equitably.
In the first of two sessions, speakers will detail the theory and evidence for integrating policies to provide children and families with enough to survive today and something to live for. In the second session, speakers will address how income- and asset-based policies can be integrated to broaden economic security.
The goal of the webinar is to identify ways to generate policies that help more families achieve economic security. With this objective in mind, discussants will discuss why both income and asset approaches are needed for families to truly be able to achieve economic security and how these approaches can be combined.
