Black Lives Matter: Advocating for Change

The School of Social Work Student Union is hosting "Black Lives Matter: Advocating for Change" on Tuesday, April 4 from 12-2 p.m. Student who attend the event will learn more about the history and background of the Black Lives Matter movement and also be provided with skills and foundational information on how to become an advocate on campus. The event is being put on in hopes of displaying a Black Lives Matter Flag in the Atrium of the School of Social Work building.
Austin McCoy, Michigan Mellon Fellow and Researcher of Afroamerican and African Studies, will be presenting the history of the Black Lives Matter movement, the significance of the movement as well as the active Black Lives Matter movement chapter on campus. Lawrielle West, a Social Work graduate student as well as an active member of the Students for Justice Organization, will be presenting on Advocacy on campus and how to be an ally.
Food will be served.
