Writing Op-Ed Essays
October 5, 2016 - 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM ET
Writing opinion essays offers one more way for each of us to engage in social justice this election seasion, by sharing our expertise and our passion through our published words.
This interactive workshop will focus on how to write an op-ed essay. We will also discuss how and where to submit your essay for publication.
We will start with a brief presentation covering audience and purpose, and the content and shape of an op-ed. Next, we will break into small groups to brainstorm ideas and provide feedback on drafts.
Bring what you have: ideas, a title, an outline, a draft. If you have a draft or outline, please bring at least two printed copies for peer feedback. If you just want an overview of op-eds, you are absolutely invited, and can choose whether to stay for the brainstorming session. (But we hope you will leave inspired to add your voice to the public conversation.)
All members of the SSW community are welcome. Feel free to bring your lunch.
