Clear and Concise Writing
October 1, 2014 - 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET
This hands-on workshop will focus on words, sentences and paragraphs. Please bring part of a draft of any paper you are working on. Bring two printed copies of two pages, which include at least three paragraphs. Bring a pen and come ready to edit.

Evaluation Student Group Meeting
October 1, 2014 - 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET
The first meeting of the Evaluation Student Group for the Fall 2014 semester will be on Wednesday, October 1 from 12-1pm. All students interested in pursuing evaluation are welcome!
The purpose of this meeting is for students to network, introduce the group's co-facilitators, and gather feedback on the types of supplemental trainings and events that students would like to see this year. A pizza lunch will be provided.

Treatment of Childhood Grief: State of the Field and Promising Practices
October 1, 2014 - 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM ET
This Continuing Education course will provide an overview of childhood grief, a field that is still very much in its infancy in terms of evidence. The course will outline what is known about adaptive and maladaptive patterns of grief in children and adolescents and will also outline the evidence on effective treatment of childhood grief. Participants can expect to gain clarity about important factors to consider when assessing or treating bereaved youth.

Advanced Standing Peer Consultation Group

For all advanced standing students—the Office of Field Instruction will be hosting it’s first ever Peer Consultation Group. Come spend time with fellow students and discuss your field work! Camilla Reynolds, OFI Social Work Resident, will be leading the group and has many fun activities planned! Social Work Field Faculty Oliva Kuester, Susan Crabb, Bill Vanderwill, and Leigh Robertson will be also be present.

A City on Fire: The Story of the '68 Detroit Tigers
October 1, 2014 - 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM ET
Stephen Ward (Faculty Director of Semester in Detroit, Afroamerican and African Studies) and CASC advisor and LEO lecturer Joe Galura will host a screening of "A City on Fire: The story of the ’68 Detroit Tigers”. The film showing will be followed by a discussion.
This event is part of this fall's LSA Theme Semester, Sports and the University. Food will be provided.
