  1. Undoing Racism: Collective Community Building

    November 26, 2019 - 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET

    All members of our SSW community are invited to participate in our regular meeting focused on undoing racism efforts. The first portion of the meeting will offer an opportunity for participants to share recent and current activities with the second portion leaving space for employees to engage in SEED workshop that was provided to students and for students to provide an update on ways concepts of power and oppression can continue to be advanced for the remainder of the academic year.

    This is the last day of field seminar for all students currently enrolled in SW531 Foundation Field Seminar.

  7. Screening and Discussion: 3/11/11: Loss and Recovery

    December 3, 2019 - 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM ET

    Please join us for a screening of an in-progress documentary about the 2011 earthquake and tsunami being put together by a current MSW student, Matthew Bouse. The footage was collected in August as part of a Global Independent Study. The screening will include scenes focused on the history of the affected area, social factors moderating recovery, mental health effects of natural disasters and culturally-appropriate community interventions. Following the film, a discussion will be held. Topics may include global mental health, disaster recovery and the documentary's progress. Japanese snacks will be provided!

  8. CBT for Chronic Pain and Sexual Health

    December 3, 2019 - 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM ET

    Chronic pain is a common comorbity for those seeking mental health and social work services. Chronic pain is often undertreated or mistreated due to inadequate access to care, stigma, and social inequalities. This course discusses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Managing Chronic Pain (CBT-CP). CBT-CP is an evidence based treatment that has shown to be effective in assisting clients with improving their sexual health and functioning while living with a chronic pain condition.

    This course also offers 2 AASECT CE hours.

    The opportunity in Uganda focuses on community health, and students will be placed in a rural community and participate in training on leadership and management at the Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST).
