MasterTrack Prospective Student Information Session

This online session will provide the opportunity to learn more about the University of Michigan School of Social Work MasterTrack program. Faculty and admission counselors will present on the MasterTrack curriculum and pathway to pursuing the full MSW program following the MasterTrack certificate. Information on the application process and financial aid opportunities will be provided. Participants are encouraged to ask questions during the webinar.

Social Work, White Supremacy, & Law Enforcement (Part 2)

Dear Social Work Community:
For the past four months, we have met to discuss current events and life threatening issues affecting the country and our lives due to COVID-19 and police brutality. Last Thursday, June 25, our guests addressed white supremacy within the social work profession and the latest suggestion that social work ought to join forces with law enforcement.
Both law enforcement and social work are grappling with the role of white supremacy in its ranks and institutions. We will hold Part 2 of this conversation this Thursday 7/2.
We will discuss these issues with a focus on individual, peer and family relations, and community organizing. Our overarching theme, Identity and Vulnerabilities, will be used to frame the discussion.

Multicultural Competencies in Sexuality Education, Counseling, and Therapy
July 10, 2020 - 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET
This course will address the sexual health needs of individuals and couples throughout the adult lifespan over diverse cultures and populations. This interpersonal practice minicourse can augment other interpersonal practice courses or can be taken independently. Building on basic sex therapy models and integrating these models with multicultural counseling theory and cultural and ethical competencies, course participants will examine their own cultural backgrounds, belief systems, and biases specifically with reference to sexual health. Utilizing the lifespan approach, key considerations in sexual health education and sexual health treatments will be described. Course participants will learn culturally appropriate assessment, diagnosis, and brief intervention approaches and will be challenged to think about the adjustment of interventions to include multicultural considerations and the intersectionality of clients identities. Budgeting and Fiscal Management

This course will present the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to develop and manage the budget of a nonprofit social service organization and its programs. Students will learn to use techniques necessary to: 1) Plan, develop, display, revise, monitor, and evaluate a program budget; 2) Evaluate past financial performance (e.g. financial statements); 3) Monitor and evaluate the cost-efficiency and cost-effectiveness of a nonprofit program and a nonprofit organization.

Free Your Mind: Push Yourself To Follow

The workshop encourages participants to define and identify oppressive ideas and behaviors and the impact on marginalized populations. Participants will work collaboratively to examine individual biases and develop a plan to actively change individual and systematic oppressive actions.
