  1. Fall 2025 SSW International Student Orientation

    August 25, 2025 (all day)

    Fall 2025 SSW International Student Orientation will be held on Monday, August 25 in Room 1636 SSWB and will provide information for incoming MSW international students. At this time, we are planning for an in-person orientation to be held at the U-M School of Social Work. Lunch will be provided.

    Please note that all incoming MSW students are expected to attend Fall SEED Orientation. Various sessions will be held each day on August 26, 27, and 28.

  2. On-Campus MSW Fall 2025 SEED Orientation

    August 26, 2025 to August 28, 2025

    SEED Orientation will be held Tuesday, August 26 - Thursday, August 28, 2025

    Share, Explore, Engage, Discover (SEED) is the School of Social Work's fall orientation experience for incoming on-campus MSW students. All incoming on-campus MSW students should plan to join SEED Orientation Week activities. Various activities are scheduled each day during Fall SEED Orientation Week (8/26 - 8/28).

    PLEASE NOTE: SEED Orientation begins on Tuesday, at the Michigan League on the 2nd Floor (Ballroom).

    It is important to note that the first class session of SW590 will be held during SEED Orientation Week.

  3. Virtual Introduction to Field Education Webinar for MSW Students Starting Field in the Winter 2026 Term

    September 2, 2025 - 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM ET

    Students that are being admitted into the MSW program in Fall 2025 but will not start field until the Winter 2026 term, please plan to attend this virtual Introduction to Field Education Webinar.

  4. Teaching Adolescent Consent Certainty and Boundary Clarity through Embodied Awareness and Assertiveness Skill Development

    It is far easier for a person of any age to say “No” to what they do not want sexually or relationally when they know with clarity and certainty what “Yes” is for them at their current age and stage of development. However, adolescents are bombarded with multiple and conflicting messages about sex from a variety of both reliable and unreliable sources. For a teen, this creates tension about who they are, what they “should” or “should not” be interested in, and for many— who may not have a strong knowledge base or parent or community scaffolding, sexual and relationship decision making may seem impossible—resulting in compliance-based choices or coercive experiences...

  5. Working With Parents of Trans Youth in Turbulent Times

    October 23, 2025 - 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM ET

    Parents of transgender and gender-diverse youth are facing increasing barriers to evidence-based, gender-affirming care due to political shifts, misinformation, and policy changes. This session will address today’s reality—including the impact of gender care bans, executive orders, and misleading reports like the Cass Review, the discredited concept of Rapid-Onset Gender Dysphoria (ROGD), and other harmful narratives used to undermine gender-affirming care. ROGD, a theory claiming that adolescents suddenly identify as transgender due to social influence, has been widely debunked by major medical organizations. Despite this, it continues to be used alongside other misleading claims to justify restrictions on gender-affirming care...

  6. Crisis Intervention across System Levels to Support LGBTQ+ Individuals in Crisis

    October 31, 2025 - 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM ET

    The purpose of this course is to provide attendees with tools and resources to support LGBTQ+ individuals in crisis across system levels. The course will begin with an introduction to LGBTQ+ communities in their social contexts and how/why crisis may look different than for cisgender/heterosexual communities. Attendees will then learn about the core tenets of trauma-informed crisis intervention with a focus on LGBTQ+-affirming practice. Strategies for supporting LGBTQ+ youth and adults in crisis will be discussed. The course will end with a more macro focus, attending to the ways in which organizations can be more LGBTQ+ affirming and how individuals at crisis or mental health organizations can engage in allyship.

  7. School of Social Work Winter Commencement 2025

    December 13, 2025 - 1:00 PM ET

    The School of Social Work Winter Commencement for Master of Social Work students will be held in person at Hill Auditorium and livestreamed on the SSW website. Hill Auditorium doors will open for guests and graduates beginning at 12 Noon.

    A light reception will be held in the Michigan League Ballroom immediately following commencement.
