This presentation will discuss depression as a mental health challenge Black male college students face during their undergraduate experiences and its relationship with everyday discrimination in college settings. Microaffirmations as an approach to promoting positive well-being will be introduced as a framework that can potentially ameliorate depressive symptoms for this student population. Findings from a national survey study will be shared and discussed with attendees. This course will conclude with a discussion of research and practice implications for social work professionals, especially those in higher education settings.
