Community Conversation: Civil Discourse and Politics

to

We invite you to a Community Conversation on the topic of civil discourse and politics on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 12pm-1pm.

Governance depends on the ability to form bipartisan coalitions that can enact effective progressive policies. Partisan politics, however, are increasingly dictating the behavior of government leadership and American society as a whole. What are the roles and responsibilities of social workers in mitigating political polarization in the United States? How do our profession's language and frameworks affect social workers' influence in the political arena?

This is a time for conversation – to share feelings, raise concerns, and talk together as a school community. To aid the conversation, space will be limited. (We know it's coming up soon, so if you miss it, don't fear!  If there is a lot of interest in this topic, we can hold another session soon.)

About the format. With these smaller Community Conversations, our hope is to explore restorative dialogue and build community, creating a space where we are all teachers and learners. We will draw heavily on practices from intergroup dialogue and restorative justice.
