Over 250,000 individuals in Michigan have a diagnosis of dementia. Experts anticipate this number to increase over coming years yet little has been done in community programming to meet the needs of this unique group of older adults. Understanding our current policy structure supporting this population is pivotal for social workers.
Experts will share current policy, research and clinical findings to provide an overview of our current position in caring for those impacted by dementia while identifying areas for growth providing care to this population. Additionally, specific ethical dilemmas will be discussed that impact persons nearing the end-of-life supporting the need for additional social work integration in care delivery.
