Ronda Halsey transitioned to the School of Social Work from Avalon Housing, a supportive housing organization that utilizes a housing-first model. Halsey obtained her BSW from Eastern Michigan University and gained experience in the field of social work during her time at Avalon by serving in various roles including Residential Support Specialist, case management, program management and property management. She also co-facilitated Avalon's Black, Indigenous, and People of Color affinity group and gained knowledge of equitable practices through the NEW Center Champions for Change Leaders of Color Cohort in 2020. Halsey is a passionate advocate for social change and a DEI champion. As a program manager in the School of Social Work’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, she is motivated to be a catalyst and support system for students, faculty and staff to cultivate a conscious community where every person feels affirmed, respected, valued and appreciated.
