Sally M. Haines

Sr Assoc Librarian

Sally Haines Lawler graduated in Comparative Literature from the University of Washington, where she became active in the Student Y. The National YWCA sponsored two summer seminars that were unusual opportunities, one a Leadership School at Pacific School of Religion, the other, the Indo-American Seminar in India, where she studied eastern religions and the Gandian social work movement. Since coming to Ann Arbor in 1970, she has pursued studies and employment in crisis intervention and librarianship. She is currently Public Services Librarian, UM SSW, and on the Boards of the Southeast Michigan Census Council and the Michigan Friends Center. Her focus on guided autobiography stems from a lifelong interest in personal documents in literature, ethnography, and history, and the therapeutic value of a written life review in social work and gerontology.
