Please join the Office of Student Services & Enrollment Management financial aid staff for an information session for current MSW students regarding the basics of federal student loan repayment options and loan forgiveness programs.
School of Social Work Spring Commencement 2026
The School of Social Work Spring Commencement for Master of Social Work and Social Work PhD students will be held in person at the Power Center and livestreamed on the SSW website. A light reception will be held in Power Center Lobby immediately following commencement.
MSW and PhD graduates may enter the graduate robing area starting at 12:30PM. Note that graduates (only) should plan to enter the Power Center-Rehearsal Hall from the upper level of the parking ramp door.
Main Power Center doors will open for guests and guest seating will be available starting at 12:45PM.

Tim Colenback - NDDSWA 2021 Years of Service Award Recipient
Assistant Dean for Enrollment Management Tim Colenback has received the National Deans and Directors of Social Work Admissions (NDDSWA) 2021 Years of Service Award. NDDSWA — a national organization affiliated with the Council on Social Work Education — established this award to recognize and honor exceptional individuals in the field of graduate recruitment and admissions.

Summer Commencement is In-Person at Hill Auditorium
Summer graduation will be held in person at Hill Auditorium with a livestream for those who can not attend. Family, friends, classmates and guests who are fully vaccinated may exempt from wearing a mask indoors by completing the ResponsiBLUE Guest daily screening process and voluntarily answering the applicable questions about vaccination status. The student speaker is LeDeanea Williams, MSW ‘21 and the keynote speaker is Kathy Tran, MSW ‘03 and Virginia House of Delegates Member, 42nd District. Details will be sent to graduates this week and will be posted on the SSW calendar.
Funds Available to Support Student Projects for Anti-Racism Work
The School of Social Work invites grant applications from MSW and PhD students to support individual student projects for anti-racism work, with a specific focus on confronting anti-Blackness, racism against Indigenous peoples and confronting white supremacy. The goal is to inclusively support students working within SSW or in communities seeking to confront racism to the greatest degree possible.
