Does the university provide overnight housing for prospective student visits?
Unfortunately no, but a current student in the MSW program may be willing to host you during your stay. Contact the Office of Student Services and Enrollment Management (734-936-0961 or [email protected]) to inquire about this possibility. Do I need to purchase a computer for the MSW program?
Yes, all Master of Social Work (MSW) students must obtain a personal laptop computer. Laptops are used in some classes, in group projects outside of class, and can serve your other information processing needs. The SSW utilizes virtual lab technology that all students can access anytime, anywhere, making a laptop essential. Please review the School's laptop requirement policy.
Is there a wireless connection available at the School of Social Work?
Wireless internet connection is available throughout the building for laptops with wireless cards.
Where do I park?
Parking on campus is very limited. If you are considering purchasing a parking pass, please visit the U-M Parking & Transportation Services website.
The University and the AATA provide several free commuter parking lots that provide service to campus via bus, more info can be found here.
Can I take the bus? What bus routes are available?
The Ann Arbor Transit Authority operates many bus routes within the city as well as between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. These buses are free for students to use with a valid ID. For more information on bus routes, you can visit the AATA website or by phone at 734-973-6500. U of M also has a bus line, and more info can be found on U-M's Parking and Transportation Services website.
Do I need a car?
Bringing a car with you is not required, but is strongly encouraged. Having a car significantly enhances your field internship opportunities.
Where are classes held?
Most Social Work classes are held in the School of Social Work Building. Some classes are held in the School of Education Building (SEB) which is connected to the School. Classes are also held in the Family Assessment Clinic which is located on South University and is within walking distance of the School
Where is the School of Social Work located?
The School of Social Work Building is located at 1080 South University in Ann Arbor, Michigan 48109; this is at the corner of South University and East University.
Are International students eligible to apply for financial aid?
International MSW applicants may apply for scholarship (merit) aid from the School of Social Work. International students also may be interested in applying to a special program (Child Welfare Scholarship Program, Community-Based Initiative in Detroit, Geriatric Scholarship Program, Global Activities Scholars Program, Integrated Health Scholarship Program, Jewish Communal Leadership Program, National Community Scholars Program, or New Leaders in African-Centered Social Work.
