SAIO grants fund travel to southern Africa for the purposes of research, creative collaborations, internship opportunities, and community-based or experiential learning projects. Grant recipients are expected to be involved with the Department of Afroamerican & African Studies (DAAS).

International Institute Student Fellowships

The International Institute Individual Fellowships are designed to support University of Michigan students, regardless of citizenship, who are enrolled in a degree program and wish to participate in internships or conduct research abroad. Award amounts are up to $5,000.

David L. Boren Graduate Fellowships
Deadline: late January
Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 to U.S. graduate students to add an important international and language component to their graduate education through specialization in area study, language study, or increased language proficiency. Boren Fellowships support study and research in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Boren Fellowships are made for a minimum of 12 weeks.

This is a four month summer fellowship program. It is intended to support U-M graduate students who are engaged in scholarly research or other creative projects focusing on women, gender or sexuality.
