Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program

The Council for International Exchange of Scholars, on behalf of the U.S. State Department, administers the Core Fulbright Scholar Program. The Fulbright Scholar Program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year. These prestigious grants provide funding for recipients to lecture or conduct research abroad for periods of two to 12 months in 140 countries.

Latin American & Caribbean Studies (LACS) Field Research Grants

Deadline: mid-February

The LACS Field Research Grants are funded by the Rackham School of Graduate Studies, LACS, the LACS-Brazil Initiative, and the International Institute to support master's, doctoral, and professional school students conducting preliminary fieldwork in Latin America. The grants provide students with the opportunity to establish professional and academic contacts, assess research sites, and refine their projects. Master's candidates may use the funds for projects related to research or their theses. Ph.D. students may use the funds for preliminary dissertation research.

Weingast Family Fund for Study in Israel

Deadline: Ongoing

Funding is available for all University of Michigan graduate students who are receiving any grant or loan funds through the office of financial aid from the Weingast Family Fund for up to $5,000 per request. Students pursuing travel or study abroad in Israel are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to students from LSA who will be studying for semester or year-long programs.

Fulbright Program

The Institute of International Education (IIE), on behalf of the U.S. State Department, administers the Student Fulbright Program, which makes fellowships available to approximately 1,900 U.S. students annually to study, conduct research, teach English or train in the creative arts in more than 140 countries worldwide. At U-M this competition is administered by the International Institute.

Rackham International Research Awards

This student-initiated application must be submitted directly to Rackham.

The Rackham Graduate School announces the 2024-25 Rackham International Research Awards (RIRA) to support doctoral and master’s students conducting degree-related research outside the United States and Puerto Rico. There is no preference for particular fields of study and Rackham and the International Institute aim to fund a diverse array of students and projects.
