SAIO grants fund travel to southern Africa for the purposes of research, creative collaborations, internship opportunities, and community-based or experiential learning projects. Grant recipients are expected to be involved with the Department of Afroamerican & African Studies (DAAS).

The Mark and Myra Sorensen International Travel Scholarship is designed to support students who will participate in study, internship, volunteer, or research programs abroad. All U-M students who are enrolled in a degree program are eligible to apply, regardless of citizenship.
