This course presents advanced topics in both micro and macro social work practice.  The topics may include emerging cross-cutting practice methods, advanced application of methods covered in other required methods courses, and applications of methods in specific populations.

Students will learn about the school to prison pipeline and implications of zero tolerance policies pushing at-risk students into juvenile and criminal justice systems. This course aims to increase cultural awareness, practice, and advocacy around social emotional well-being and learning methods for those who will be working with youth in schools and communities.

  1. Clearly articulate the problem and results: behavior management in schools, school to prison pipeline, expulsions

  2. Panel discussion of people who are working in these areas

  3. Teaching skills around restorative conferences, peace circles, conflict management, mediation, and facilitation
