The Sexuality Counseling track is primarily for healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, physician assistants, clergy, coaches, somatic professionals, intimacy coordinators, and nurse practitioners. Professionals are able to provide counseling related to questions about sexual functioning, health, problems as well as provide solid up-to-date information. Participants report that after completing the program, they see a strong increase in referrals of patients with sexual difficulties. Some report that they have a greatly expanded role in sexual counseling in their clinics or agencies. One full year of post-graduate work is required.
Minimum Application Requirements:
- Bachelor degree or higher
- Medical Professionals: Pre-licensed (e.g., limited license, postgraduate & under supervision, resident) or fully licensed
- Engagement in counseling: “Counselors assist the client to realistically resolve concerns through the introduction of problem solving techniques of communication as well as providing accurate information and relevant suggestions of specific exercises and techniques in sexual expression. Sexuality counseling is generally short-term and client-centered, focusing on the immediate concern or problem.” (aasect.org)
- One full year of post graduate counseling work
Completion of this track meets the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) educational requirements for certification as a Sexuality Counselor:
- Sexual Attitude Reassessment (14 hours): SAR
- Core Knowledge Areas (90 hours): Core Sexual Health Education (CSHE 1-6)
- Sex Counselor Training Areas (60 hours): Applied Training in Sex Counselor (ATSCT 1, 3 and ATSC 2, 4)

- November 15 - Scholarship application opens to those who applied by October 31
- December 15 - Scholarship application closes
- 30 days after offer of admission - Enrollment deposit due for admitted participants
- January 10 - Application closes (or sooner if cohort fills)

Total cost of the Sexuality Counseling track - $6500
Non-refundable enrollment deposit of $200 is due within 30 days of receiving an offer of admission

Social Work Continuing Education
The University of Michigan School of Social Work, provider #1212, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 5/15/2026-5/15/2029.
AASECT
This program meets the requirements for the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for up to 225 CE credits.
