The SHCP’s Comeback Option is for professionals who are or have been AASECT-certified as a Sex Therapist, Educator, or Counselor OR hold a certificate of completion from any SHCP Track. Whether you have gained a new degree, pivoted your career, or are adding a new service, the Comeback Option can help you expand your skill set.
Comeback applicants can apply to join the Applied Training course bundles in Counseling or Educator tracks which includes the 60 hours (over 4 courses) of AASECT required training for Sex Education or Counseling. There is an expectation that, through your previous SHCP Track completion or AASECT Certification, the 90 hours of AASECT Core Knowledge Area course work and SAR have been completed prior to applying to a Comeback Option. Training course bundles, consisting of 60 hours over 4 courses, cannot be split, and must be completed in their entirety in one cohort year.
Eligible candidates must apply by the application deadline and meet at least one of the following criteria. If you do not meet one of the criteria, you will not be able to complete the application:
- Hold a current or past AASECT Certification as a therapist, educator, or counselor
- Completed the Sexual Health Certificate Program

Continuing Education Credits
Social Work Continuing Education
The University of Michigan School of Social Work, provider #1212, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 5/15/2026-5/15/2029.
AASECT
This program meets the requirements for the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for up to 60 CE credits.
