In 1997, Ann Lurie made a generous donation to the University of Michigan School of Social Work to establish the Marion Elizabeth Blue Endowed Chair in Children and Families named in memory of her mother and given in honor of her children. At academic institutions, professorships are a vital part of innovative research and teaching. Over the past 25+ years, the impact of this important gift has been tremendous in advancing the School’s efforts aimed at improving the lives of children and families.

Since 2019, Dr. Todd Herrenkohl has served as the Marion Elizabeth Blue Endowed Chair Professor. Herrenkohl’s research is on child well-being, child maltreatment prevention, and the psychosocial and developmental underpinnings of health-risk behaviors amplifies the essential purpose of the endowed chair. An example of Dr. Herrenkohl’s vital work includes his research in creating more trauma-informed schools for the betterment of children’s well-being and education.
