When You Change Yourself, You Change the World

The U-M School of Social Work invites you to a community-building event in the SSW Courtyard and courtyard Sukkah.

The SSW invites you to join with other community members to share in a conversation about the traditions, communities, and role models that mean hope and home for you while we think about the community we can create together.

During SEED week, new SSW students began a conversation about what it means to learn with each other across our different backgrounds. We would like to continue these discussions throughout the year. During the yearly harvest festival holiday of Sukkot (October 6 -14), the SSW’s Jewish Communal Leadership Program (with the assistance of Facilities) builds a traditional temporary structure, known as a Sukkah, in the school courtyard. The Sukkah is used by Jews to celebrate home and community while also acknowledging the frailty of all human-built shelters and traditions. Please join us as we continue to build upon these themes and talk together.

Lunch from Jerusalem Garden will be provided. Kindly RSVP below to help ensure there is enough food for everyone.

A follow-up event will take place during the Muslim observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Building Community in Uncertain Times

The SSW community is also invited to join the Jewish Communal Leadership Program’s annual Sukkot Open House, “Harvesting Home and Hope” on Wednesday evening, October 8, 5:00 – 7:00 pm, in the School of Social Work courtyard. RSVP here.
