Professor Joseph Himle's research interests focus on mental health intervention research with adults and youth. Himle's current intervention projects include mental health intervention trials focused on bringing cognitive behavioral therapy to underserved populations. He has been the Principal Investigator, Co-Investigator, or Mentor on a total of 20 research grants funded by the National Institutes of Health in addition to receiving funding from a range of other sources. Additional areas of scholarly interest include the relationship between psychosocial interventions and neurobiological factors, mental disorders, and social work practice in mental health. Professor Himle holds a joint appointment with the University of Michigan Department of Psychiatry. Professor Himle has served in many administrative roles at the School of Social Work including Interim Dean, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Associate Dean for Research. Dr. Himle is also an active clinician and teacher in the area of mental health practice, presenting to local, national, and international audiences. Finally, he is a fellow in the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare and the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.
Research Interests
Mental health, anxiety, depression, psycosocial interventions, cognitive-behavioral therapy, interface between neurobiology and psychosocial interventions in mental health.
