This course presents advanced topics in interpersonal practice. The topics may include emerging practice methods, advanced application of methods covered in other required methods courses, and applications of methods in specific populations.
This mini course will explore assessment and intervention with people experiencing a medical crisis including areas of trauma, impact of medical diagnosis, loss of normal functioning and death of a loved one. The impact of crisis on patients and family members as well as medical caregivers will be addressed and specific interventions will be presented. Children in crisis will also be addressed. Testimonial information will be presented in part of the class by people who have experienced both medical crisis and social work crisis intervention.
Participants will have an opportunity to practice crisis intervention techniques through case examples.
