What are the MSW program fees?

Social Work Essentials MSW and MasterTrack MSW students will have 45 credits remaining for the MSW degree, which is equivalent to 3 semesters of full-time tuition cost. Tuition costs vary based upon whether a student is a Michigan resident or non-resident. Tuition estimates can be found here.

Are special scholarships programs available for Social Work Essentials/ MasterTrack MSW students?

Yes, Social Work Essentials MSW and MasterTrack MSW students may apply and participate in any special scholarship program available for their program if they meet special program criteria.

Do the courses for the Social Work Essentials or MasterTrack Certificate have a required practicum site? If yes, is there support for finding a field placement?

No, the certificate programs do not require a field placement (practicum). Students will be required to engage in a field placement once enrolled in the MSW degree program and the Office of Field Education will assist in setting up a placement.

Are there any career opportunities if I only complete the MasterTrack Certificate or Social Work Essentials Certificate?

Yes! There are a lot of jobs that look for knowledge/training offered by the MasterTrack or Social Work Essentials. These positions may look like: case workers, advocates, coordinators, etc. Keep in mind that the MasterTrack Certificate and Social Work Essentials Certificate are not equivalent to an MSW degree.

What accommodations are available for learners with disabilities completing the MasterTrack Certificate through Coursera?

Will I receive an actual certificate after I complete the MasterTrack Certificate program?

Yes. Coursera will provide a certificate to learners upon completion of assignments for individual MasterTrack courses. Once a learner has completed all courses for the MasterTrack Certificate and verified their identity with Coursera, the University of Michigan will issue a certificate of completion for the Social Work: Practice, Policy and Research MasterTrack Certificate via email. Certificates will be sent once a month, based on completion of the certificate.

I took the free version (MOOC) of Social Work Practice: Advocating Social Justice and Change. How do I get credit for this course now that I'm pursuing the full MasterTrack Certificate?

If a learner took the free version of Social Work Practice: Advocating Social Justice and Change and then enrolls in the MasterTrack Certificate, they will need to re-enroll in SWMT 101: Social Work Practice: Advocating Social Justice and Change (the first certificate course) and then the information from their past course completion will pull over into their certificate profile.

How long do learners have to complete the Social Work Essentials Certificate or MasterTrack Certificate?

All courses must be completed within 2 years of first enrollment of the certificate. If courses are not completed within this timeframe, a learner would need to pay again and begin the courses all over to pursue the certificate.
