This is a train-the-trainer series for school professionals interested in becoming facilitators of the Trauma-Informed Programs & Practices for Schools (TIPPS) approach. TIPPS is a research-based model intended to lessen the effects of trauma and promote safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environments for all students. Strategies and resources offered in this series will cover the TIPPS 10 core pillars of a system-change process and allow participants to customize content to address needs of their local settings. Upon completion of the series, participants will be equipped to train others on the TIPPS approach.
Please note this course occurs over two days and participants will need to attend both days in order to be eligible for social work continuing education hours.
Learning Objectives
- Define and describe adversity, trauma, and resilience.
- Describe the 10 TIPPS pillars.
- Describe features of a trauma-informed approach for schools at the systems level.
- Identify tools and resources to guide the selection, implementation, and sustainment of trauma-informed programs and practices.
- Develop an implementation plan to facilitate trauma-informed trainings.
- Describe evaluation strategies to assess the impact of these trainings.

Instructor
Angela Blood Starr, MA is a Regional School Health Coordinator at Calhoun Intermediate School District with experience in providing instructional services to educators related to the fields of health education, physical education, and wellness. As a former physical education and health teacher, Angela gained experience in the classroom that continues to influence her work with others who support schools. Currently, Angela services a five-county region in the areas pertaining to the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) framework including wellness, health education, physical education, social and emotional learning, crisis intervention, the whole child, and trauma. As an iRest® Level I Teacher, Angela also provides training and support to educators experiencing compassion fatigue through self-care promotion and practice.
