The wealth disparity in the US between the top 1 percent and low or middle income households has been growing since the 1980s, reaching an all time high this year  (see this article). The growing wealth and income gaps can impact people living in poverty on a personal level, including their access to food, housing, medical care and other basic necessities. Poverty also impacts people disproportionately across different identities, including race, gender and disability status. Let’s come together to discuss the systemic causes of poverty, its impact on individuals and what can be done to help those experiencing financial insecurity.

Join us as we practice curiosity, challenge assumptions, and grow together in community.
This is a time for conversation – to share feelings, raise concerns, and talk together as a school community. To aid the conversation, space will be limited.

About Community Conversations.  Community Conversations can be called by anyone in our community. They are designed to help us come together to talk about things that matter. They invite us to consider different perspectives and ideas - even when we disagree. We try to keep them small, since our hope is to explore restorative dialogue and build community, creating a space where we are all teachers and learners. We will draw heavily on practices from intergroup dialogue and restorative justice.

Zoom link will be provided after registration.
