We invite you to a Community Conversation about Misinformation, Disinformation, and Misdirection on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 12-1PM.
During our conversation, we will discuss the issues of misinformation, disinformation, and misdirection. According to Debunk.org, misinformation refers to the unintentional creation and dissemination of false or misleading information, which can confuse, influence opinions, harm, mobilize or demobilize people. Disinformation is the deliberate creation and dissemination of false and/or manipulated content, specifically designed to deceive and mislead for harmful or political, personal, or financial purposes. Finally, misdirection, according to the Cambridge Dictionary, is “the action of making people pay attention to the wrong thing, usually intentionally so that they will not notice something else.”
What are your thoughts and experiences with misinformation, disinformation, and misdirection? How do you respond to them, and in what settings do you encounter them?
After registering, you will be added to a calendar invite with a Zoom link.
This will be a time for conversation – to share feelings and thoughts, raise concerns, and talk with one another as an academic community.
