We invite you to a Community Conversation around Living Restoratively.
November is Restorative Justice Month- a time to reflect on how we build, repair, and strengthen relationships in our communities. Every day, our interactions and situations can lead to misunderstandings or hurtful words and actions that create imbalances in our relationships. While it can be intimidating to have difficult conversations when emotions are high, doing so fosters a sense of shared responsibility and accountability. Restorative practices involve techniques for strengthening relationships and repairing harm, and promoting empathy. They are collaborative conversations that use affective statements to share feelings, build shared understanding, and develop creative solutions to move forward together. Let’s explore how we can incorporate restorative practices into our daily lives and work environments- creating spaces grounded in respect, compassion and healing.
All are welcome, regardless of your connection to the topic. This is a space to share your story, support others, ask questions, or simply listen and be present. Together, we can create community, foster understanding, and learn to support ourselves and one another through loss and change.
This is a time for conversation – to share feelings, raise concerns, and talk together as a school community.
About the format
With these smaller Community Conversations, our hope is to explore restorative dialogue and build community, creating a space where we are all teachers and learners. We will draw heavily on practices from intergroup dialogue and restorative justice.
