Description

The VA San Diego Healthcare System Interprofessional Fellowship in Psychosocial Rehabilitation & Recovery Oriented Services (“PSR Fellowship”) is currently recruiting for psychology, social work, vocational rehabilitation, chaplaincy fellow positions for the 2027-2028 training year. We provide a full-time, one year, paid, psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery specialty training in the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC) located in the Mission Valley area of San Diego, CA. Our PRRC, named Center of Recovery Education (CORE), is an intensive outpatient-like program for Veterans with a primary diagnosis of a psychotic disorder and serious functional impairment.

PSR Advanced Fellows work primarily at the VA San Diego’s Center of Recovery Education (CORE), an award-winning CARF-accredited psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery center (PRRC) with an energetic and committed interdisciplinary team of staff and trainees who provide an impressive menu of evidence-based and innovative PSR services in a positive team culture. Fellows also complete a 3-month rotation on our inpatient psychiatry unit and a mini rotation in our vocational rehabilitation clinic. Fellows spend 60-80% of their time conducting clinical work under the supervision of licensed social workers and psychologists, up to 20% on a scholarly project, and 10-15% in didactics and training activities.

In 2018, our program earned the American Psychological Association Division 18 President’s Excellence in Training Award. Our fellows have consistently ranked the program very positively of their choice, and many have gone on to satisfying careers in the VA and elsewhere. In our 2024 CARF accreditation report, the San Diego VA Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC)/Center of Recovery Education (CORE) program was identified as a top 1% national psychosocial rehabilitation program.

This is a great opportunity if you are looking to gain more focused training and supervision in evidence-based psychotherapies (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT, CPT), develop expertise in treating psychosis spectrum disorders with co-occurring conditions, and accrue more knowledge about VA clinics and services while accruing hours toward licensure.

The fellowship and application details are in the attached brochure, which is also available on VA San Diego’s website: Interprofessional Fellowship Program in PSR and Recovery Oriented Services . The salary for post-masters social work fellows $49,411. Fellows must have earned their MSW before starting the fellowship on August 9, 2027.
