About the Office of Global Activities:
The Office of Global Activities leads the School of Social Work's (SSW) international engagement. This includes connecting School of Social Work students and faculty to international social work opportunities through funding, special programs, academic resources, internationalized curriculum, and arranging faculty and student exchange opportunities.
About the Role:
The Global Activities Program Manager is responsible for managing the international programs offered by the SSW, advising students on global opportunities, supporting incoming visiting scholars and exchange students, and assisting with general operations of the office. The Global Activities Program Manager advises prospective and current students about the various global education opportunities and assists them in all stages of their experience. Additionally, this position provides the primary support for all international exchange visitors coming to the SSW, including visiting students and faculty. This position reports to the Office of Global Activities Director. The office staff also includes 1-2 student staff or interns.
Responsibilities:
35% Program Management
- Serve as the main contact for SSW students interested in or currently completing a global experience.
- In collaboration with the director, manage assigned OGA programs, including collaboration on development, analysis, and policy implementation.
- In collaboration with the director, manage the application and admissions processes for faculty-led study abroad courses and global scholars, including student communication, scheduling and facilitating interviews, creating and maintaining application data, and managing the online application management system.
- Serve as a primary information resource for prospective and enrolled students interested in global opportunities.
- Serve as the liaison between the OGA and UM's Student Accessibility and Accommodation Services to facilitate student accommodation requests on education abroad programs.
- Ensure compliance with UM policies on disability and learning accommodations as applied to education abroad opportunities.
- In collaboration with the director, provide information, guidance, and support to SSW faculty members who design and lead faculty-led study abroad courses.
- In collaboration with the director, ensure compliance with UM health and safety policies and requirements for student international travel, as listed in the UM Standard Practice Guides.
- Develop and implement evaluations used to plan process and program improvements.
- Facilitate individual pre- and post-departure meetings for Global Independent Study grant recipients and other MSW students traveling internationally as needed.
- Manage the organization, design, development, and execution of recruitment events, including the global poster fair, student information sessions, global lens exhibit, etc.
25% International Student, Exchange Student, and Visiting Scholar Support
- Provide logistical support to all international visitors to the SSW, including exchange students, visiting research students, and visiting scholars.
- Analyze, compare, and evaluate all processes for exchange visitors to the SSW.
- Responsible for the administrative management and renewals of Memorandums of Understanding and Exchange Agreements with partner institutions in Africa, Europe, and Oceania.
- Manage the DS-2019 request process for all exchange students, visiting research students, visiting scholars, and their families on J-1 and J-2 visas in collaboration with the International Center.
- Manage the H-1B, Permanent Residency, and other visa processes for faculty and staff hires in coordination with the SSW Human Resources staff.
- Work with the SSW Associate Dean to manage the request and application process for visiting research students and visiting scholars.
- Maintain and update administrative records for all exchange students, including working with faculty advisors and student candidates to facilitate the application and acceptance process.
- Create and manage exchange correspondence related to the application/acceptance process, handle scholarship disbursements, and coordinate the registration process.
- Provide logistical support and facilitate on-site orientation and feedback sessions for all international exchange visitors.
- Organize and lead the annual international student orientation.
- Support degree-seeking international students, including developing social activities and coordinating support resources.
15% Leadership and Supervision
- Provide task supervision and daily support for temporary and student staff in conjunction with the OGA director.
- Represent the Office of Global Activities on SSW and University-wide committees.
- Present at SSW and University-wide workshops and national and international conferences.
- If candidate is two years post MSW graduation, provide supervision and/or field instruction for MSW field students placed in the OGA and/or in international placements.
25% Administrative Management and Events Planning
- Manage daily office operations and administrative issues.
- Manage office publications and web presence, including internal and external marketing tools.
- Prepare travel requests, travel reimbursements, deposits, requisitions, purchase orders, and other related budgeting duties as needed.
- In collaboration with the director, manage budgeting for all OGA programs.
- Collaborate with other UM offices to promote international and intercultural learning; communicate with the University's other academic and student services offices; and perform other similar duties at the direction of the director.
- Organize and facilitate the annual pre-departure orientation for all outgoing students.
- Lead event planning for international visitor guest lectures and annual events promoting SSW international programming.
- Manage special projects and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Social Work.
- 2-3 years of work experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing issues and projects related to diversity and inclusion.
- Committed to delivering top- quality, transformative global experiences to students and exchange visitors.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills working with diverse colleagues, faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
- Flexibility and the ability to work both independently and as a team member.

- Ability to set priorities, exercise initiative, work on numerous projects simultaneously, and meet/negotiate daily deadlines.
- Ability to identify and implement process improvements to enhance office efficiencies and productivity.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workplace.
Desired Qualifications:
- Is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the macro or clinical areas.
- Work experience in higher education and/or international education settings.
- Experience living, studying, and/or working either abroad or in culturally diverse settings.
- Experience with the TerraDotta software platform.
