The Office of Global Activities (OGA) is committed to supporting students engaged in global opportunities. In addition to OGA and SSW funding sources, a variety of U-M units and external sources offer funding opportunities for traveling students.

African Studies Center Conference Travel Grants
Deadline: Ongoing
ASC will award up to $500 for domestic and $1,000 for international travel to support Africa-focused conference participation.
Global Social Work Event Grant
Deadline: Ongoing
The Office of Global Activities (OGA) offers event grants to the School of Social Work students who would like to propose and plan an event with a global theme.
Student events that have been proposed and funded in the past include showing a documentary with a global focus, hosting a discussion afterward, and organizing a panel of social workers who have done work abroad. Events are not limited to these categories, and we encourage students to get creative and propose something new.
Two grants, each up to $125, are available in the fall semester.
Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives - SAMI Grant
Provides students and student organizations with a source of funds for involvement in academic multicultural activities. The awarded amount can be up to $1,000 for individuals and $2,000 for student organizations or groups. Application cycle is once a month.

Weingast Family Fund for Study in Israel
Deadline: Ongoing
Funding is available for all University of Michigan graduate students who are receiving any grant or loan funds through the office of financial aid from the Weingast Family Fund for up to $5,000 per request. Students pursuing travel or study abroad in Israel are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to students from LSA who will be studying for semester or year-long programs.

The Fellowship is designed to attract outstanding individuals from all ethnic, racial and social backgrounds who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career with the U.S. Department of State.

Luce Scholars Program

This program provides stipends, language training, and individualized professional placement in Asia for 15-18 Luce Scholars each year.

David L. Boren Graduate Fellowships
Deadline: late January
Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 to U.S. graduate students to add an important international and language component to their graduate education through specialization in area study, language study, or increased language proficiency. Boren Fellowships support study and research in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Boren Fellowships are made for a minimum of 12 weeks.
Institute for Research on Women and Gender Community Scholars Graduate Fellowship
Deadline: early January
This is a four month summer fellowship program. It is intended to support U-M graduate students who are engaged in scholarly research or other creative projects focusing on women, gender or sexuality.
