Viktor Burlaka’s research focuses on developmental pathways to child alcohol use. His three-study dissertation explores associations between family factors, parenting, externalizing behavior problems, peer influences and increased alcohol use among Ukrainian children of 9-16 years of age. The first study examines parenting styles and their relationship with family systems and caregiver characteristics. The second study explores whether positive and negative parenting styles independently and together predict child aggression and delinquency. The third study assesses impact of child conduct problems, parent, peer and environmental factors on the frequency of child alcohol use.
